Couples

Patterns, Communication, Repair & Intimacy

When therapy is done with couples, it can help the clients grow individually within the relationship. Sometimes, this means members of the couple must reckon with behaviors that are inhibiting that growth. There may be self-protection strategies that each individual uses to defend themselves that cycle back and forth. Couples can get stuck in a dynamic.

I work with partners to learn communication and conflict resolution skills, discover how best to work as a team, and identify relationship patterns that need updating. We work to understand each partner’s attachment strategy and explore how their history and this relationship impact their nervous system. We explore how conflict impacts eachother and what each person needs for safety. It’s a collaborative process to find safe ways to reach for each other, have heart-to-heart sharing, and create a secure space to bring vulnerability forward. I help couples identify what they do when they are worried about being left, feeling alone, or disliked by the other, and increase feeling seen and heard for both members.

I am passionate about helping couples grow and connect. I meet you where you and your partner are, as we uncover what’s making you stuck. We identify your negative patterns and create a safe space to promote vulnerability in each session. One may learn to trust being vulnerable for the first time, and the other may learn it’s safe to drop their guard. We talk about your strengths. I provide opportunities for co-regulation, which can often happen in tandem with each partner learning how to express themselves, listen, and self-soothe.

Therapeutic Modalities

I have advanced training in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), and I incorporate somatic interventions to help couples learn how to calm down together and build more awareness of where they are, where they have been, where their partner is, how they are impacting each other, and learn different paths towards how they want to be with each other (and themselves). I work with each member of the couple to create an opportunity to become more authentic in a way that helps them trust themselves and each other. The therapy is tailored to the goals we set together in hte initial sessions and integrates the following:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Psychodynamic

  • Mindfulness & Somatic Interventions

  • Sex Therapy

  • Parts Work (Internal Family Systems - IFS)
